Habitat One

The boundary between science fiction and reality is an illusion, the power of imagination is about envisioning a new future, even envisioning a new scientific and technological future. The distinction between this fictionalized understanding of the future and reality is of our own doing.

Influenced by space habitats proposed by Gerard O’Neill, with the research of cutting-edge technology, theories and landscape planning, this research is an architectural proposal envisioning humanity’s future in low-earth-orbit space settlements. It proposes a relatively smaller scale rotational free space habitat in low-earth-orbit providing living space for nearly 1200 inhabitants as a starting point for humanity’s exploration of a rotational space habitat. This space habitat consists of an inner ring, habitation ring (outer ring) and spokes connecting two rings. By spinning at 2.7 revolutions per minute, people living in the habitation ring would experience artificial gravity.
