Breathing Maze

Breathing Maze aims to investigate the topic of “automated space” in architecture. The proposed machine responded to the individuals’ movements, serving as a set of automatic spatial former for the users. They would accordingly rise down to create a void for potential space, whereas the remaining ones serve as spatial dividers. The project thereby provides a possibility to satisfy the diverse needs for spatial configurations, a kind of spatial configuration that breaths with the users.

Breathing maze is a multifunctional architecture machine can be in various scale and circumstances. On a larger scale, the device can be seen as an interactive landscape, where people are able to manipulate the area into different height for multipurpose. On a smaller scale of design, the device is useful in creating a piece of composite furniture that is once a table, chair, stair or shelf.
